Beginning this fall, UVA Batten will offer its two high-demand graduate certificates — Public Leadership and Public Policy — in a fully online format. These 12-credit programs reflect the core of the Batten School’s mission of developing public leaders and advancing policy for the public good while expanding access to new national and global audiences.

UVA Batten’s long-standing partnership with the Tadler family enables our students to gain invaluable, hands-on experience helping to solve real-world problems, right here in Virginia. Focused on the southwest region of the state, these programs focus on rural economic development, including housing, health care, job training, as well as energy and the environment. 

Over the past five years, with generous support from UVA alumni Richard and Donna Tadler, more than 175 students have benefited from this opportunity through intensive internships, year-long fellowships, and applied coursework. And the Southwest Virginia communities they work with have received thousands of hours of pro bono consulting and research.
